Meet Dr. Ben Kolean
Dr. Kolean was raised in Washington state and has always dreamed of living in Alaska. After high school, he spent his summers working as a fisherman in Alaska. Following his passion for helping people, he decided to pursue a career in dentistry and graduated from the University of Washington with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2002. Dr. Kolean returned to Alaska and has since been providing top-quality dental care to the community.
Insurance Information
Dr. Kolean is a preferred provider for many insurances, including Metlife, Delta, United Concordia, Premera, Cigna, Ameritas, Principle, Aetna, and Guardian. For your convenience, we also bill all other dental insurances. Our knowledgeable staff will work with you and your insurance provider to ensure you receive the best possible care at a reasonable cost.
Preventive Services Provided
Preventive care is essential for a healthy mouth. We believe in the importance of educating our patients on proper oral hygiene practices and offering the following preventive services:
- Dental Cleanings and Exam: We recommend coming in for a regular teeth cleaning every six months to keep your mouth healthy. During this visit, Dr. Kolean performs a dental exam to check your teeth for cavities and your gums for periodontal disease.
- Dental X-rays: Dental x-rays are an essential tool for detecting issues at their earliest stages. We only take x-rays that are necessary for your dental health.
- Sealants: Sealants provide a thin protective coating for your teeth to prevent tooth decay.
Basic Services Provided
For minor dental issues or cosmetic improvements, we offer the following services:
- Fillings: We offer tooth-colored composite fillings for restoring decayed teeth. We also provide cosmetic fillings to enhance the appearance of your smile.
- Extractions: Our team does our best to maintain your natural teeth. However, there are instances when an extraction is necessary due to severe decay, advanced periodontal disease, abscess, orthodontic correction, or fractured roots.
Major Services Provided
For more extensive dental needs, we offer the following major services:
- Complete and Partial Dentures: We provide both conventional and immediate complete dentures, as well as removable and fixed partial dentures and bridges, to replace missing teeth.
- Dental Crowns: Crowns fully cover a tooth to restore its strength and functionality.
- Root Canal Therapy: Our gentle root canal therapy removes infected pulp, alleviates pain, and prevents future abscesses.
